The Ponta de São Lourenço Trail is a popular hiking trail located in Madeira, Portugal. It is situated at the easternmost point of the island and offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Embark on this shore excursion and visit the best places at the NorthWest oF Madeira in a 4x4 vehicle with a open top roof. We will take you to the Western part of Madeira passing thru deep valleys, taking you up to 1500 meters high. You will get information and history about the views, native forest, fauna flora, meet the madeiran water aqueducts "levadas" and learn more about them. Please bring some comfortable shoes as we may have a 15 minutes walk to learn more about the "levadas". We will pass the Madeira plateau, the only flat area in this island, and then drive to Porto Moniz where you will visit the vulcanic lava pools. If the weather slows, you can swim at the volcanic polls. The lunch is optional, and has a cost of €12.00 per person for a 3 meal course with beverage and coffee. Hike at your own rhythm on a self-guided trek in Caldeirão Verde. Explore the incredible Laurissilva Forest and mystical trail along a water channel, with green views on one side and stunning waterfalls along the other. A visit to the center of Santana is followed to observe the typical triangular houses with thatched roof, followed by another stop in Faial. Returning to Funchal, you will have two more stops, at the belvedere of Ponta de São Lourenço and Machico. Return to the hotel by 5:00 p.m.

On this tour we leave Funchal in the direction of Poiso with an altitude of 1412m and then climb through the mountains to Pico do Arieiro at a height of 1818m. This is one of the most beautiful places with breathtaking views of the island of Madeira. We stay here for a while and walk a little. We then descend to Ribeiro Frio where we are in the Laurissilva Forest and we visit the trout nursery. We continue our adventure along old paths passing Cedro Gordo and Cruzinhas until we reach the Village de Santana where we will visit the typical straw houses (Colmo). After this stop we descend to the village of Faial with amazing views down to the sea and then continue towards Ponta de São Lourenço in the east of Madeira. This is a stunning route, which includes tunnels and a few stretches with steep rises and descents, offering fabulous views of the island’s central massive. It is also possible to observe several birds, some of which are exclusive to Macaronesia, such as the canary of the land (Serinus canaria), the petty of the field (Anthus berthelottii madeirensis) and the andorinhão-da-serra (Apus unicolor). Near the Pico Ruivo shelter is the track PR 1.2, which leads to the Achada do Teixeira. Already at Achada do Teixeira you can see the basaltic rock formation known as “Man in Foot”, located in the descent after passing through the shelter of Achada do Teixeira.
