Our guides are fully qualified and have extensive knowledge of the Lake Myvatn area. Not only will you learn about the history, landscape and present day life, on this tour you will also hear about Icelandic folktales, humor and culture. This is a total 6-7 hour tour trough some of the most picturesque landscape in North Iceland. All travel time is included in that length. After about 35 minute drive from Akureyri we come the beautiful waterfall Goðafoss. We stop here for a good time for you to enjoy the scenery before we continue our drive to Lake Myvatn. After around 30 minute drive from the waterfall we come to Lake Myvatn itself and our first stop is at Skutustadir, Psuedo Craters. We then stay in the area for around 3 hours with many different stops during the day like at Dimmuborgir lava field, Grjotagja cave and Namaskard fumerols. At the end of the day we drive for an hour and 15 minutes back to Akureyri.

This German-speaking small group tour leads from the port in Akureyri to the Goðafoss waterfall and the volcanic lake Mývatn. The tour starts along the fjord and overlooks the town of Akureyri via the Vikurskarð mountain pass to the beautiful Góðafoss waterfall. From there, the journey continues across two plateaus to Lake Mývatn, where we make several stops. On this 4x4 tour with an expert guide we head off from your pick up location in North Iceland, usually Akureyri or Lake Myvatn and travel though stunning landscapes passing glacial rivers, moutains and lava fields deep into the highlands to visit the amazing Askja volcanic area. We then move on to Herðubreið, a flat top volcano where the beautiful Herðubreiðarlindir Springs are situated at the foot and are considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the wilderness in Iceland. We also visit the otherworldly Drekagil or 'Dragon's Gully'. Of course the highlight of the trip is the magnificant Askja Caldera in the Dyngjufjoll Mountains, it is a 50 km2 subsidence cauldron formed when an eruption caused the roof of the magma chamber in the central volcano to subside. The caldera contains Víti crater where it is sometimes possible to swim in the Summer.

This tour is a combination of hiking and sightseeing. We start our tour from Akureyri. Our first stop is Goðafoss [the waterfall of the Gods]. Afterwards we will keep on driving direction Lake Mývatn. Next stop will be Dettifoss waterfall. Dettifoss is Europe's second most powerful waterfall. Then it's off to Hljóðaklettar, a row of ancient craters shaped by the glacial river Jökulsá. This area is where we go hiking for about 2 hours in a very unique landscape. Then we head towards the ocean where we may be able to discover some puffins which are found in the area from May to beginning of August. Next it's time for coffee at Tungulending, a small coffee house located on the beach at Skjálfandi bay. From there we go to Húsavík and stroll around the harbour area. We end our tour driving back to Akureyri. This is a round trip.
