Follow me down a dark alleyway into Oxford's mysterious and bloody past. Oxford is one of the most haunted places in Britain, with good reason. It was the murder capital of medieval England, largely due to its extremely badly behaved student population. I will take you on a tour round the city's most sinister streets and baddest back-alleys, where we will hear about the terrible events that have left so many spirits wandering eternally. Burning bishops. Enraged poltergeists. Abandoned lovers. The Devil himself!! All have made their restless presence felt over the centuries and if we're (un)lucky, we might spot one of them tonight - it has happened on my tours before. This tour is thoroughly enjoyed by children, but it does contain some quite gory details so check they are ok with that. It needs to take place when it's dark, as that's when 'they' come out. It could well be cold, and possibly wet, so please dress accordingly.

We can cater to special dietary needs. Food & drinks usually wine or gin tasting at a micro-brewery stall, a visit to the Oxford cheese company and or Italian style gelato plus a choice from a wide range of local, international food stalls at Oxford's international food market. You can also sample a micro brewery drink inside the Covered Market, if you wish to. This tour introduces each college we pass on the route and sometimes it also includes entry to one of the university colleges. NOTICE: this is NOT a tapas tour as one finds in Spain, where they enter bars and sit down. Instead we visit food stalls but there is no restaurant or bar service. This is not like other Oxford walking tours. If you’re bored of the Bodleian, sick of the Sheldonian and tired of the towers… then this is the tour for you! We want to help you scratch beneath the surface of Oxford, whether you’re visiting for the first time or have lived here for decades. Our tour explores Jericho, a neighbourhood just a few minutes north of the city centre. Today it’s one of the most desirable areas in the country. But 150 years ago it was smoky, noisy, smelly and relentlessly productive. You’ll hear stories of kings, politicians and rock stars - but our real focus will be on the factory workers, printers, publishers and hospital staff who worked, lived and died on these streets. Your guide for this two hour walking tour is Rob, who has lived in Oxford for over 25 years. Rob’s a storyteller, not an historian. We’ll go down rabbit holes and explore the personal stories that have helped shape Jericho’s community.

Explore the lives of two of Oxford's greatest writers, and their friendship, with an award-winning guide. On this tour we will follow in the footsteps of JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis. We will see where they studied, taught, lived, worshipped, lectured, wrote and - most importantly - drank with their friends the Inklings. Out of these friendships and conversations emerged Aslan, Gandalf and many other much-loved characters and stories. Both men became extremely famous in their lifetimes, but never gave up their day-jobs of teaching in the English department. We will explore CS Lewis's conversion to Christianity and late-life marriage to Joy Gresham, and hear about Tolkien's student pranks and life-long deep love for trees. We will end at the beautiful college of Magdalen, where Lewis taught for nearly 30 years and the Inklings met every Thursday. If you want to go inside it, you will need to pay the entrance fee, which is £9.50 adults/£8.50 concessions.
