Curral das Freiras is a small village surrounded by huge mountains in the heart of the island. The cauldron on which this town sits was formed by erosion, as many believe, or by volcanic activity. After passing the church of Santo António, we stop at the 355m Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint where you'll be dazzled by a magnificent view over Funchal. We then cross the mountains to Eira do Serrado where there is a viewpoint over the Curral das Freiras valley at 1094m. We visit the famous parish of Curral das Freiras and return to Funchal.

This trail begins in the Machico valley in the southeast part of the island and consists of a flat course of about 6.5 km, with an easy degree of difficulty. We start the excursion towards Camacha village for a visit to the Crafts Factory and the Wicker Bazaar. Then, we climbed Poiso towards Pico do Arieiro (1810 meters), this being the third highest peak on Madeira Island. We go down to Ribeiro Frio where you can visit a trout pond as well as admire an important part of Madeira's Laurissilva Forest (world heritage). We continue to Santana, known for its famous thatched houses. Stop for lunch (not included). After lunch, we pass through the Porto da Cruz area and continue to Ponta de São Lourenço. In a last stop, we make a brief visit to Pico do Facho from where we can observe the city of Machico and Ponta de São Lourenço. On January 1st and December 25th there are no excursions.

The tour begins with the departure towards Câmara de Lobos (fishing village where the famous swordfish is caught). Then, pass through Cabo Girão (highest cliff in Europe with 580 meters offering magnificent views of the sea, Câmara de Lobos and Funchal). We continue our journey along the coast to Ribeira Brava. We start climbing up Encumeada to the plateau of Paul da Serra (1400 meters). Descend to Porto Moniz where you can admire the natural pools. Stop for lunch (lunch not included). Then, return by the northern coast, passing through Seixal and São Vicente. Climb to Encumeada (1007 meters) from where we can see the sea from both sides. Return to Funchal. The Madeira Whale Museum’s permanent exhibitions occupy over 1.000m2 divided into two rooms. The permanent exhibitions are open to the public since September 2011 and the visitor is invited to explore the waters around Madeira to discover its riches and learn more about the whales, dolphins and other marine life that inhabit these waters. The visitor is also transported in time to the early 1940s, to learn more about the history of whaling in Madeira. The exhibition begins in the Whaling Room, with the rediscovery of ancient times through a series of objects, printed images, movies and multimedia kiosks. This room is divided into several thematic areas, ranging from the operation of the lookout network to the factory for processing the animals, as well as the hunting techniques, the reconstruction of the whaling fleet and crews and the contextualization of whaling in Madeira on the world.
