Nestled in the dramatic Poqueira Gorge, Pampaneira is one of Alpujarra’s most picturesque villages. On this walking tour, you’ll explore the history, architecture, and food of the village that, until recently, was inaccessible and so developed a unique culture and way of life. The tour starts and ends outside the Iglesia de la Santa Cruz. From Plaza de la Libertad, outside the church, you’ll make your way down the charming Calle Verónica, before heading up to Paseo de Federico García Lorca. From there, you’ll meander through Pampaneira’s most picturesque streets and alleyways, stopping at some breathtaking viewpoints. You’ll see the village from above before making your way back down to its centre. You’ll hear about life in the village, traditional foods, and how the climate has shaped the village. By the end of the tour, you’ll have a sense of how life in this rugged environment has been shaped by the landscape, climate and the various people who have inhabited it.

On this private visit to the historic center of Lucena, we will tour some of the most emblematic places of what was known as the Pearl of Sephard. The itinerary begins at the castle of Moral, where we will discover its Arab origins and its later Christian conquest. Nearby, the Spanish Steps and the Church of St. Matthew will reveal the Hebrew footprint of the city, as this temple was built on an ancient synagogue. The walk continues through the palace of the Counts of Santa Ana, a magnificent example of 18th century civil architecture, and through the exteriors of the Casa de los Moras.
