Is there a place in Greece that combines a gorge, a river, a lagoon, a beautiful sandy beach and a palm forest? forest? The answer is yes, and it is Preveli beach. The beach is located at the exit of the Kourtaliotis gorge where the river of the same name ends. It is one of the most famous beaches of southern Crete and receives thousands of visitors every summer. Behind the impressive sandy beach begins the second largest palm forest of 40 hectares, which is home to the endemic Cretan Theophrastus palm. In the heart of the forest, the visitor loses all sense of time and space. You can follow the marked path (and it is advisable not to stray from the path) and enjoy the greenery and the sound of running water. The river forms a small lake, 500 meters long, where it empties into the sea, with water all year round.
