On our back to Plovdiv, we stop by the beautiful Arapovo monastery – a repository for the notorious wonder-working icon of the Virgin Mary. The history of the monastery is unique since it is the only sanctuary constructed during the Ottoman times with no traces of previous existence. Another exciting aspect of the monastery is the incredible wall paintings which break away from the canon of the church and depict the lives of saints and preachers in a completely different way.
The wine production coming from there forms the identity of the winery which focuses entirely on the Bulgarian grape called Mavrud. The Thracian valley is the only region in the country where Mavrud wine has flourished abundantly and its qualities – developed to its best. Enjoy this food for the soul and the calmness of the afternoon setting sun.
