It is a large depression, covering an area of about 3,190 hectares (7,881 acres), and is fed by several small streams. During the rainy season, Baikka Beel expands to a large water body, while in the dry season, it becomes a grassland. Baikka Beel is an important habitat for a variety of waterbirds, including several endangered species such as the Baikal teal, lesser adjutant, and white-winged duck. It is also home to several species of fish, amphibians, and reptiles. The wetland is an important source of livelihood for the local communities, who rely on fishing, agriculture, and livestock rearing.
