Unlike most sea kayaking tours, this full-day expedition goes beyond the Sunken City to the rarely visited ancient city of Aperlai, combining history, swimming, local culture and a true sense of exploration. With fewer visitors and more time to explore, you’ll experience hidden bays, quiet archaeological sites and the slower rhythm of the Lycian coast. It’s a journey designed for travellers who prefer discovering places rather than simply ticking them off a list.
Optional hike: 3 km to Ancient Aperlai We start in the fishing village of Üçağız, where after a short introduction to sea kayaking, we paddle onto the calm waters of Kekova. Our first stop is Simena (Kaleköy). Wander its narrow streets, enjoy a coffee or ice cream, or climb to the medieval castle for one of the finest views on the Mediterranean. Back on the water, we paddle along Kekova Island and over the famous Sunken City, where the remains of an ancient Lycian town lie beneath the crystal-clear sea. After a swim in Tersane Bay, we continue to the quiet shores of Aperlai. After lunch by the sea, we explore the forgotten ruins of Ancient Aperlai, a peaceful archaeological site rarely visited by tourists. The return paddle is often helped by the afternoon breeze, making for a relaxed finish to the day. Perfect for active travellers with a sense of adventure. No kayaking experience is needed—just reasonable fitness. Along the way, your guide shares stories about the history, nature and life of the Lycian coast.
