Common questions about booking Helsinki experiences through SimilarTours
Winter (November to February) is magic if you're chasing the northern lights - several operators run premium transfers up to Rovaniemi for that. Summer (June to August) offers endless daylight and is perfect for boat cruises and exploring the archipelago. Shoulder seasons work well if you want fewer crowds and milder weather, though lights are off the table.
Multi-day trips and northern lights experiences tend to fill quickly, so book those several weeks out if you're travelling in peak season. Day tours around Helsinki and Porvoo have more availability, but locking in a time a week or two ahead means you won't miss your slot.
Yes, especially for Helsinki's heritage sites and Porvoo's old town - a local guide will tell you stories you won't find online and skip the tourist queues. The city's compact enough to walk yourself, but if you're short on time or want real context, a private guide pays for itself.
Porvoo is the closest and most popular day trip; private tours or transfers are common. Turku and Tampere are further out and work best as part of a longer itinerary. Many travellers book multi-day packages that bundle Helsinki with these towns rather than arranging transport separately.
Private Mercedes transfers to St. Petersburg are available, though check current travel regulations before you go. Tallinn, Estonia is just across the water and features on several multi-day cultural tours that pair it with Helsinki.
Winter is crisp but far from impossible - sauna cruises on the Baltic run year-round, and private transfers to the north are designed for comfort. Dress warmly, and you'll find plenty of visitors doing exactly that.
Yes - several multi-day packages include hotel and airport transfers, which saves hassle when you arrive. If you're booking tours separately, check whether transfers are included or arrange them as add-ons.

Finland
Helsinki pulls you in with its clean design, waterfront charm, and easy access to Finland's wild side. Most visitors combine the city's sights - markets, museums, the striking white Uspenski Cathedral - with day trips to Porvoo's colourful old town or ventures north toward the Arctic. You'll find travellers booking anything from private sauna cruises on the Baltic to multi-day journeys that string together Helsinki, Porvoo, Turku, and even a dash into Tallinn across the water. Winter brings northern lights chasers; summer draws people keen on long days and coastal exploration.
