Visit the interpretation center to learn about the park’s unique ecosystem, geology, and volcanic activity. Then we drive up to 4,600 meters (15,092 ft) and begin an optional hike to José Rivas Refuge (1 hour uphill / 45 min return). Admire the views, spot wild horses and condors, and feel the majesty of the Andes.

Take an optional 1.5-hour round-trip hike to a scenic viewpoint on the mountain. It’s a moderate walk, and we recommend hiking boots, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, and a light lunch/snack.

On your way back, stop in Tumbaco to savor borrego (roasted lamb) or your preferred meal. Multiple cuisine options are available.
