You will be met by your guide outside the Colosseum where, you begin to explore this enormous amphitheatre, a lasting legacy of the genius of Roman engineering, and the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire.

The tour then moves on to the nearby Arch of Constantine and the Roman Forum. The Forum was at the very centre of life in Ancient Rome, a place of commerce, politics and religion. Around this ancient square are the ruins of the Arch of Titus, the House of the Vestal Virgins, the Temple of Saturn, the Senate House, and the white marble Arch of Septimius Severus. A stroll down the Via Sacra (Sacred Way) sees you arrive at the Capitoline Hill and Il Vittoriano, one of the largest and most iconic monuments in the city.

Next you’ll head to the stunning Trevi Fountain, a world renowned monument which has featured in literature and films. According to legend, anyone who throws a coin into the fountain and makes a wish is destined to return to Rome one day. After the Trevi Fountain there will be a break for lunch (own expense). With so much choice, feel free to call upon the expertise of your guide for a lunch recommendation.

After lunch you’ll head into the Government District, home to the Parliament Building, the Palace of the Council of Ministers and the Column of Marcus Aurelius, as well as the ancient Temple of Hadrian; this large building was erected by the Emperor Antonius Pius in honour of his predecessor.

A short walk along a narrow alleyway and you arrive at Piazza della Rotunda, the location of the Pantheon. Inside, you’ll see the tomb of Raphael, the famous Renaissance Master. You’ll then head to Piazza Navona to see Bernini’s mesmerising ‘Fountain of the Four Rivers’, passing by the ruins of the Baths of Nero on the way.

The final stop on this tour is the Vatican City – the smallest country on the planet! Here you’ll wander through the Vatican Museums, home to an astonishing number of incredible artworks, including frescoes by Raphael.
