Go on a wildlife safari to encounter humpback whales between Paea and Mataiea, an area that is still relatively unexplored (the only operator departing from Paea!). Our experienced and passionate guides will share fascinating insights into whale biology and will supervise you if in-water encounters are possible, always with the utmost respect for the approach guidelines established by DIREN.
What our guests love:
* Less-explored area * Respect for the animals * Experienced guides * Comfortable and spacious 28-foot boat * Family-run business
equented area between Paea and Mataia, allowing us to approach them with the utmost respect for the animals. We have an onboard hydrophone, allowing you to listen to the songs of the males. Swimming with whales? Yes, it is possible under certain conditions and at the guide’s discretion (you can also choose to remain on board). In-water encounters are neither mandatory nor guaranteed. They require an assessment of the whales’ behavior, good physical fitness, and favorable sea conditions. PASSIVE OBSERVATION is our priority: a gentle, step-by-step approach carried out with discretion, allowing the animal to decide whether or not to come and meet us. Our “maximum 12 swimmers” boat can also accommodate observers, with a maximum of 12 passengers in total. If there are more than 6 swimmers, they will be divided into 2 rotating groups, in accordance with current regulations. For greater comfort, we also offer “maximum 6 swimmers” boats (+ observers), allowing us to avoid rotating groups. Private boat trips are also available.
Our main departure point is located at the Paea fishing harbor (PK 26.7). In case of unfavorable weather or sea conditions, we may depart from Taina Marina in Punaauia instead. These two locations are 15 km apart.
