Volcanic Wonders and the Kingdom of the Birdman: Half Day

We visited this ceremonial town on the edge of the Rano Kau volcano, where the deadly competitions of the Tangata Manu, which in the local language means “Bird Man”, took place, which determined which clan would be in charge of the island for a year.

The Vinapu "ahu" platform is by far the most well-constructed on Easter Island. It is made with such perfect engineering that it reminds many of the works of the Inca empire. In addition, there are several remains of destroyed moais, those that were demolished in the 18th century.
