With the arrival of the SF Trail in 1821, the inn was the preferred lodging for trappers, settlers, travelers, and politicians.

Santa Fe means “holy faith” and in 1610 the first church was built on this site and replaced by a larger one in 1630, which was then destroyed following the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. There are 20 bronze plaques on the church doors that depict the history of NM since 1539.
