Our tour starts from Cava dei Balestrieri, an important historical landmark of San Marino. Since the 14th century there is evidence of a corps of crossbowmen with the task of defending the city walls and maintaining public order.

The State Museum of San Marino, opened in 1899 and initially located in Palazzo Valloni, has been located in Palazzo Pergami Belluzzi since 2001. It houses a vast collection of almost 5,000 pieces, including works of art, archaeological finds, paintings and historical objects, many of which come from San Marino and illustrate its history.

The tower, with a pentagonal base, underwent various reinforcements and reconstructions, especially in the second half of the 15th century, and in the 16th century it was equipped with a sloping roof.

Built at the end of the 11th century with a pentagonal plan, this building served as the headquarters of the guard corps and housed some prison cells.

It is the “smallest” in size, but it played a strategic role in defense: it is in fact located in the best position for the lookout.
