Our rafting activity in the Selva Lacandona is, without a doubt, the most scenic in the entire country. It takes place all year. It is also ideal to do it with the family (from December to May it can be done by children over six years of age) and it lasts 4 hours.
It is difficult not to marvel at the huge ceiba trees and trees over 40 meters high, which protrude from the banks of the Lacanjá River. Also, if you are lucky, you will spot some jungle animals. The first part of the river is a sequence of waterfalls that lasts about an hour. There are small waterfalls (less than one meter) and some large ones (up to 2.50 meters high). Later we paddle another hour until we reach the archaeological site of Lacanjá, which is 15 min away. from the river bank walking through the jungle. Then we visit the Moctuniha waterfalls where we will swim and have a snack. We return to the camp walking through the dense foliage of the high evergreen jungle.
The rafting begins at the Rio Lacanja Camp, located in the Lacanja-Chansayab Lacandon community. You can get there by taking public transportation from Palenque to the San Javier cruise where you can request a taxi to take you to the camp (9 km away).
