Streets are a tradition that emerged in Guanajuato in the mid-20th century, inspired by former Spanish students. These musical groups, composed mainly of university students, travel the alleys and squares of the city singing popular songs while recounting local legends and anecdotes. The tradition was adapted to the colonial setting of Guanajuato, where the narrow alleys and architectural landscape offer an ideal environment for activity. Although the alleys were born as a form of student entertainment, over time they have become one of the main tourist attractions of the city, thus preserving a connection with the history, culture and popular art of the region.

Teatro Juarez Avenida de Sopena 10, Guanajuato, Mexico
Located next to the iconic Juarez Theater, the San Diego Temple dates back to the 17th century and was built by the order of the Discalced Franciscans. In colonial times, Guanajuato flourished thanks to its silver mines, and this temple was a meeting point for believers and miners seeking divine protection before entering the mines.
Due to the mountainous topography and the uncontrolled growth driven by the mining rush of the 18th century, homes were built on uneven terrain, connected by narrow, steep alleys.
