Al-Beidha, commonly known as Little Petra, is an archaeological gem just a few kilometers north of Petra. Though smaller in scale, it offers a peaceful and intimate glimpse into the Nabataean world, often without the crowds found at the main Petra site. ️ Historical Significance: Al-Beidha was a vital suburb of Petra, likely serving as a residential and trade area for visiting caravans along the incense route. ️ Name Meaning: “Al-Beidha” means "the white one" in Arabic, referencing the pale sandstone cliffs that define the area. Key Highlights: Carved Facades: Nabataean tombs, temples, and dwellings cut into the sandstone cliffs. The Painted House: A rare Nabataean structure with well-preserved interior frescoes—one of the few surviving examples of Nabataean painting. Siq al-Barid: The cool, narrow canyon (its name means “Cold Siq”) that offers a dramatic and shaded entry into Little Petra.
