Place des Abbesses is one of the most famous in Montmartre, named after the abbesses who ran the Royal Abbey of Montmartre from the 12th century until 1790. Place du Tertre is one of the symbols of Montmartre, full of brasseries and street artists that paint or sing en plein air! Here you will have a taste of the iconic Macarons! These colorful little gems feature an almond shell filled by a flavored ganache. They have become a true symbol of French elegance in sweets. Legend has it that Catherine de’ Medici brought them to France in the 16th century proving once and for all that a sweet tooth can change the course of history.
