Innsbruck Private Old Town & Landmarks Walking Tour

Your Experience

Explore Innsbruck’s Old Town on a private guided tour for 1–25 guests, from the Stadtturm to the Triumphal Arch and St. Anne’s Column.

Getting started

Meet your guide in Innsbruck’s Old Town to begin your private guided tour. After a short introduction and outline of the route, your group of 1–25 guests sets off on foot through the historic center. The walk follows paved city streets and squares, so standard city footwear is sufficient for this itinerary.

What to expect

Stadtturm

Your first major stop is the medieval Stadtturm, one of Innsbruck’s most recognizable landmarks. From here, you connect the compact Old Town with the surrounding Alpine landscape.

Features

• From the Stadtturm you enjoy panoramic views across Innsbruck, with the city’s rooftops framed by nearby Alpine peaks.

• As part of your private guided tour, your guide uses the Stadtturm vantage point to orient you within the Old Town and point out later stops such as the Golden Roof and Innsbruck Cathedral.

Golden Roof

You then move through the narrow Old Town streets to the Golden Roof, Innsbruck’s most famous facade. This late medieval balcony anchors the historic heart of the city.

Features

• Standing beneath the Golden Roof, you can clearly see its 2,657 gold-plated copper tiles that give the landmark its name and glittering appearance.

• Your private guided tour includes a detailed explanation of the Golden Roof’s role in Innsbruck’s past, tying it to the nearby Hofburg and Hofkirche on your route.

Hofburg and Hofkirche

The walk continues to the Hofburg and Hofkirche, the former imperial palace complex and adjoining court church. This area reveals Innsbruck’s connections to imperial power.

Features

• At the Hofburg, your guide highlights the building’s imperial history and how it shaped Innsbruck’s development as a regional center.

• In the Hofkirche, you explore its role as a court church while your guide connects its story to other sites on your private guided tour, such as Innsbruck Cathedral.

Innsbruck Cathedral

From the court quarter, you proceed to Innsbruck Cathedral, a key Baroque church in the city. The visit focuses on its architecture and interior artworks.

Features

• Inside and outside Innsbruck Cathedral, you see Baroque architecture and celebrated artwork that distinguish it from the Gothic Hofkirche you have just visited.

• Your private guided tour here focuses on visual details, with your guide pointing out specific artistic and architectural features before you continue toward Maria-Theresien-Strasse.

Maria-Theresien-Strasse

Next, you arrive at Maria-Theresien-Strasse, a central boulevard lined with historic buildings and open views. This section of the walk links the medieval core with later city expansions.

Features

• As you stroll along Maria-Theresien-Strasse, you enjoy clear Alpine views that frame the street, contrasting with the enclosed alleys around the Golden Roof.

• This part of your private guided tour sets up the approach to St. Anne’s Column and the Triumphal Arch, both visible along or from this main thoroughfare.

St. Anne’s Column

Continuing along Maria-Theresien-Strasse, you reach St. Anne’s Column, positioned in the street’s central axis. It serves as a focal point for the surrounding square.

Features

• Around St. Anne’s Column, your guide encourages you to look in all directions, taking in the column itself together with the surrounding facades and distant mountain backdrop.

• Your private guided tour includes time here to connect the column’s location on Maria-Theresien-Strasse with your final landmark, the nearby Triumphal Arch.

Triumphal Arch

The route concludes at the historic Triumphal Arch at the end of Maria-Theresien-Strasse. This marks the transition from Old Town vistas to one of Innsbruck’s most recognizable ceremonial gateways.

Features

• At the Triumphal Arch, you can step back to see how the arch frames the perspective along Maria-Theresien-Strasse, with St. Anne’s Column and the Old Town receding behind you.

• Your private guided tour finishes here, bringing together the themes of imperial history, religious landmarks, and Alpine views you encountered at the Stadtturm, Golden Roof, Hofburg, Hofkirche, Innsbruck Cathedral, Maria-Theresien-Strasse, and St. Anne’s Column.
