Ho Chi Minh City: Xom Cai Local Life Walking Tour

Your Experience

Explore Ho Chi Minh City's Xom Cai neighborhood on a guided walking tour with an expert English-speaking guide and a choice of private or shared group tour.

Getting started

Meet your expert English-speaking guide at the designated starting point in Ho Chi Minh City and set off on your guided walking tour of the Xom Cai area. After a short orientation, you leave the main streets and enter the residential district. The route begins at a gentle pace so you can get used to the narrow alleys and local surroundings.

What to expect

Narrow alleys and traditional apartment blocks

This part of the walking route focuses on everyday life in Xom Cai, away from major tourist routes. You move through narrow alleys and traditional apartment blocks where local residents live and work.

Features

• The guided walking tour leads you through tight lanes lined with homes, small shops, and shared courtyards, so you can observe how a local Vietnamese community organizes its daily routines.

• Your expert English-speaking guide helps you navigate the maze of narrow alleys, explaining how traditional apartment blocks are arranged and how neighbors interact within this compact space.

• Depending on your booking, you either join a shared group tour with other guests or enjoy a private tour for your group only, which shapes how you engage with the guide in this part of the neighborhood.

Van Phat Pagoda

Van Phat Pagoda is a Buddhist temple set away from the typical tourist paths, visited as a key stop on the route through Xom Cai. It offers a quieter environment compared to more central religious sites in Ho Chi Minh City.

Features

• Inside Van Phat Pagoda, you experience a peaceful Buddhist setting, giving you a view of how local worshippers use this less-visited temple in their spiritual life.

• Your expert English-speaking guide provides insight into the customs you see in the pagoda and helps you understand how this religious space fits into the broader community.

• As part of your guided walking tour, this stop is included in both the private tour for your group only and the shared group tour with other guests, so every participant visits Van Phat Pagoda.

Hoa Binh Market

Hoa Binh Market is one of Saigon's most authentic local markets and forms another core stop in the Xom Cai area. You walk into the market area on foot, continuing the route from the residential alleys.

Features

• At Hoa Binh Market, you see stalls and vendors that primarily serve nearby residents, which helps you experience a "no-tourist" side of the city as you move between fresh produce, household goods, and everyday items.

• During this market visit, your expert English-speaking guide points out typical products sold here and explains how locals use the market as part of their daily shopping routines.

• A tasting of local snacks is included in your tour, and your guide selects items at Hoa Binh Market or nearby stalls so you can sample flavors that local shoppers regularly buy.

Hidden local life in Xom Cai

Across the full route, the focus remains on connecting you with local life in a compact part of Ho Chi Minh City that most visitors do not explore. The walking pace allows time to pause and observe how residents use shared spaces.

Features

• The guided walking tour is structured to immerse you in the vibrant energy of a local Vietnamese community, combining residential alleys, Van Phat Pagoda, and Hoa Binh Market into one continuous route.

• Your private or shared group tour with an expert English-speaking guide is designed around observation rather than major landmarks, so you can connect with the routines and rhythms that define Xom Cai.

• While a tasting of local snacks is included, transport to and from the meeting point, as well as additional meals and drinks not specified in the tour, are not part of the experience and need to be arranged or purchased by you separately.
