Your Experience
Explore the mountains around Porto on a small-group 4x4 off-road tour with pick-up and a local guide.
Getting started
Get collected from your chosen location within Porto city with the included pick-up and begin the drive out of town in a 4x4 vehicle. Your driver and local guide introduce the plan for the small-group route as you leave the urban streets behind. The off-road tracks into the surrounding mountains mark the start of your journey into quieter valleys and riverside landscapes.
What to expect
Roman gold-mining site
This stop takes you to ancient Roman gold-mining excavations tucked into the Serra near Porto. You see the traces left in the rock and terrain that tell the story of how this area was worked in the past.
Features
• The driver and local guide explain how the Roman gold-mining site was used, so you can link the remaining structures and cuts in the rock to the extraction methods that once operated here.
• Travel here by 4x4 along off-road mountain tracks that standard city vehicles do not follow, which lets you approach the excavations through their original natural setting.
Couce village
Hidden in the heart of the Serra, Couce village is a small stone settlement surrounded by forest and valley views. You spend time walking its narrow paths and seeing how the houses sit within the landscape.
Features
• The local guide points out features that define Couce village as a traditional stone village, from its construction style to its position above the valley floor.
• Your 4x4 off-road experience continues as you arrive and depart via unpaved routes, so the approach to Couce village becomes part of the adventure between stops.
Ferreira river viewpoints
Several viewpoints over the Ferreira river and its surrounding valleys form one of the most panoramic parts of the route. From these vantage points, you can look across the river corridor and the slopes that frame it.
Features
• You pause at viewpoints to see how the Ferreira river cuts through the valleys, giving you wide views over the water and surrounding hillsides that contrast strongly with central Porto.
• The driver and local guide position the 4x4 at selected Ferreira river viewpoints so you can step out safely, take photos, and understand how the river connects the different stops on your itinerary.
Rope swing and riverside area
Along the Ferreira river, you reach a section where a rope swing hangs over the water, surrounded by trees including cork oak. This part of the tour focuses on being close to the river itself.
Features
• Walk among cork oak trees and watch or try the rope swing over the river, experiencing this playful feature of the riverside environment from up close.
• Access to the rope swing area is included as part of your visit to the Ferreira river viewpoints, with your driver and local guide managing time so everyone in the small group can enjoy the stop.
Traditional local bar by the water
Near the river, you visit a traditional local bar set by the water, which serves as a relaxed final stop before you head back to the city.
Features
• Here you use your inclusion of 1 drink in a local bar, with or without spirits, choosing a beverage while you sit by the riverside setting.
• This bar stop is where the guided element softens into free conversation, giving you time to reflect on the 4x4 off-road experience and ask your driver and local guide any final questions before returning to Porto city with the included drop-off.
• Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.
• Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the starting point.
• Please check your final voucher for the starting point details & specific instructions.
