After lunch, we´ll head to the Lanquin Caves! The National Park of Lanquin Caves was created in 1995 and is very close to Semuc Champey. The Mayan Q'ueqchi' ethnic believes that the Lanquin Caves are a sacred place. This was used to perform Mayan ceremonies in the past and even nowadays, they are still used for that purpose from time to time. For the Mayans, the entrance to the infraworld is the caves. In Lanquin, the cave system is around 11 km long, and only around 3+ km have been explored and studied. This is the perfect chance to visit a mystical place with little afflux of people and experience a different activity that not all people dare do.
