Pondicherry, now officially known as Puducherry, was the largest French colony in India. French influence is visible in all the streets and buildings and the French language is widely spoken to date. This influence is so strong that Pondicherry is often referred to as ‘The French Riviera of the East’. Enjoy the stunning shoreline of Pondicherry as you drive to your hosts’ residence for a cooking class of authentic Pondicherry cuisine- a fusion of French and Tamil cuisine.
Highlights: • Welcome drink • Introduction to Pondicherry cuisine • Cooking class with an English speaking instructor • Lunch or dinner
Your hosts will serve you a welcome drink as they acquaint you with the cooking and culture of Pondicherry. The traditional cuisine of Pondicherry is not just a fusion of French and Tamil cuisine but was also cross-pollinated by the cooking of another French colony, Vietnam (or Indo-China as it was called then). There were extensive trade and military links between Pondicherry and Vietnam that led to these culinary influences that are visible even today. Next join your instructor in the kitchen to cook some delectable dishes. You can learn to cook 4-5 traditional dishes in one session. Savor the dishes cooked with your hosts and take back some wonderful memories of the day. After lunch / dinner, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
