Camino de Santiago Primitivo from Lugo to Santiago

Lugo, with its impressive Roman wall and historic air, is the ideal place to start the Primitive Way. A welcoming city full of life, it offers the pilgrim a first contact with Galician culture, good gastronomy and a perfect environment to prepare before starting the route to Santiago. From its cobblestone streets, the Camino makes its way to an authentic Galicia, full of green landscapes and tradition.

(17 km.) The stage from Lugo to San Romao da Retorta marks the true beginning of the Camino on foot, leaving behind the walled city to enter rural Galicia. The route runs along quiet paths, among oak forests, scattered villages and ancient milliaries that recall the Roman past of the route. Small and silent, San Romao welcomes the pilgrim with its simple charm and natural surroundings, offering a well-deserved rest after the first day of walking.

(28 km.) The stage of San Romao da Retorta a Melide is one of the longest on the Camino Primitivo, but also one of the most rewarding. The road winds along rural paths, crossing medieval bridges and small villages full of authenticity. Upon arriving in Melide, the Primitive Way joins the French Way, and the pilgrim atmosphere becomes more lively. Melide is also famous for its octopus, so this stage culminates with an excellent opportunity to enjoy Galician cuisine.

(14 km.) The stage from Melide to Arzúa runs between soft and green landscapes, with stretches of forest and well-marked dirt roads. It is a comfortable day, ideal to enjoy the atmosphere of the Camino, already more crowded after the union with the French Way. Arzúa, known for its Denomination of Origin cheese, offers a warm welcome to the pilgrim and all the necessary services for rest.

(17 km.) The stage from Arzúa to O Pedrouzo maintains a smooth and pleasant profile, crossing eucalyptus forests, small rural areas and agricultural areas. It is a quiet day, perfect to reflect and enjoy the surroundings before the last day. Or Pedrouzo, with its pilgrim atmosphere and good offer of services, is the ideal place to rest and prepare for arrival in Santiago.

The stage from O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela is the last of the Camino, and is lived with a mixture of excitement, expectation and joy. The trail runs through lush forests and villages such as Amenal and Lavacolla, where pilgrims prepared before entering the holy city. Upon reaching Mount Do Gozo, the Cathedral Towers appear for the first time on the horizon, marking the beginning of the end. From there, the road descends to the heart of Santiago, where the Plaza del Obradoiro and the Cathedral welcome the pilgrim with an unforgettable sense of achievement.

Last day in Santiago. After breakfast, our services end. It is time to enjoy the city calmly, walk its streets full of history, visit the Cathedral or attend the mass of the pilgrim. A perfect day to enjoy the closure of a unique experience and take with you the memories of the Camino.
