This museum is the continuation of the efforts of Third Wave Volunteers lead by Dr. Alison Thompson (author of The Third Wave - A volunteer Story and the director of Film Third Wave). This museum will take you a touching journey through science and history of 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.

Used for both theatrical performances and rituals, these masks are carefully handcrafted by skilled craftsmen who have learnt the art from their forefathers. The Ariyapala Mask Museum in Ambalangoda is an excellent way of learning and understanding mask making that is unique to Sri Lanka. The museum has a workshop and library which is specifically designed to introduce the richness of the mask tradition of Ambalangoda.

The fishermen sit on a cross bar called a ‘petta’ tied to a vertical pole and driven into the sand a few meters offshore. From this high position, the fishermen casts his line, and waits until a fish comes along to be caught. Although the approach looks primitive and ancient,

unique shrine that guarantees peace and solitude to anyone who visits. Built by the Japanese Nipponzan-Myōhōji order in 2005, it was made as a symbol to promote peace in the island.
