Barbara Roussanou is a Greek Orthodox monastery located in the Meteora region of Greece, near the town of Kalambaka. It is one of six functioning monasteries in the area and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It’s also a great example of how important defense was to the monks who built these monasteries.
Like some of the other monasteries, it also has a second name, ‘The Metamorphosis of the Saviour’ monastery. But this monastery isn’t just big. It’s also the whole reason there are so many incredible monasteries in the first place!
