Nefertari, also known as Nefertari Meritmut, was an Egyptian queen and the primary wife of Ramesses the Great, holding the title of Great Royal Wife. Her name means "beautiful companion" and "Beloved of [the goddess] Mut". Nefertari is one of the most famous Egyptian queens, alongside other notable women such as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Hatshepsut. Although she is not known to have reigned in her own right, she was highly educated and possessed the rare skill of being able to read and write hieroglyphs. She utilized her abilities in her diplomatic work, exchanging correspondence with other prominent royals of the time. Her tomb, QV66, is one of the largest and most elaborately decorated in the Valley of the Queens. Additionally, Ramesses the Great constructed a temple for her at Abu Simbel, which stands next to his colossal monument.

Ramesses II was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt, and his name means "Ra is the one who bore him" or "born of Ra". He is also known as Ramesses the Great and was born around 1303 BC, reigning from 1279 to 1213 BC. Ramesses II is widely regarded as the most celebrated, powerful, and greatest pharaoh of the New Kingdom, which was the most dominant period in Ancient Egypt. He is recognized as a significant figure in Egyptian history, and his successors and later Egyptians referred to him as the "Great Ancestor
