We are on a ridgetop filled with trees and sunlight, far enough up to see Denali Mountain on a clear day! You will get to hike through a forest with a Guide that will teach you about the local history and also the climate of Interior Alaska. See how a local dog musher lives on his homestead. This is an eye-opening experience, showcasing how most Alaskans live, work, and play in the Arctic!
We will hike 2-3 miles from our homestead into a boreal forest and meander through a grove of Birch, Quaking Aspen, and Spruce trees overlooking the Goldstream Valley. One of our working Alaskan Gold Rush Huskies may accompany us on your walk for some added doggy fun! Your guide will point out the types of trees, plants and animal tracks. You might see moose, fox, birds and other small mammals indigenous to Alaska. Climate, permafrost and tundra will be discussed and you may find berries along the way! You will need to be physically able to walk or hike 2-3 miles with minimal elevation gain. This tour includes a kennel visit at our homestead with our traditional Gold Rush Alaskan Huskies. They are friendly and love everyone who visits! Your guide is their pack leader and will happily answer dog sledding questions or give a demonstration. There will be bugs! There will likely be mud! Please wear waterproof boots or hiking shoes. Bug spray is highly suggested. Kids under 6 years old are welcome if they are able to hike, or a parent will carry them. The trail is not suitable for strollers.
