It was opened in 2005 after three years of construction and was the largest mosque in Kazakhstan until the completion of the Hazrat Sultan Mosque.
It was established on August 28, 2004 by decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is located at 11 Beibitshilik Street in Astana.
Opened on July 6, 2010, the structure cost around $260 million to build. After the Pyramid of Peace and Concord, this is the second project by British architect Norman Foster in Astana.
