My name is Luis, I am an Economist and worked as a consultant for more than 20 years. One day, I decided to trade the office for my true passion: sailing and enjoying nature, especially the sea. I have been sailing since I was 10 days old, a passion I inherited from my family, and I love sharing my knowledge of the sea and navigation with those who join me on board. Since moving to Colombia with my family, I have had the chance to discover Tayrona National Park from a perspective few people know: from the sea. It’s a unique experience we want to share with you. We are bilingual (Spanish and English) and love to chat, share local stories, and create unforgettable memories. We will take you to live a truly unforgettable day. The experience is led by my team

This project was started by a group of peasant families who have decided leave aside activities with a negative impact on the environment (like intensive agriculture and livestock) and work in tourism. These families saw that the place what has always been their home is a paradise of landscapes, biodiversity and cultural experiences. And now they want to show this paradise, and everything it offers, to the rest of the world. This trek is outside of others tourist treks saturated with visitors, wildlife full, ancient rainforests, impressive waterfalls, friendly people and stunning views of the mountains and the Caribbean Sea. Of course, to get to the most beautiful places requires great effort, hiking along steep slopes, grass fields, forests and mountains. As such, it is necessary to be in a good physical and mental condition. You will be rewarded at the end of each day, when we will be welcomed, eat and sleep in the peasants houses where we will have a cultural exchange.

Common questions about booking Santa Marta experiences through SimilarTours
December through March offers the driest weather, which matters if you're trekking or doing desert tours. The rainy season (May-November) brings lush landscapes but also muddy trails and occasional cancellations. Most tours run year-round, but check before you go for seasonal conditions.
The 4-5 day Lost City tours book up fast, especially in peak season - aim for at least 2-3 weeks ahead if possible. If you're flexible on dates, you'll find slots easier, but don't count on walking up and joining the next group.
Guided tours aren't optional for the Lost City - it's legally required and culturally important to hire licensed operators who work with indigenous communities. For Tayrona beach time, you can go solo, but the real experiences - multi-day treks, desert motorcycle expeditions, private boat trips - are built around guides who know the terrain and local culture.
Most include accommodation, meals, and ground transport, but lodging ranges from basic jungle camps to more comfortable setups depending on the tour level. Check before you go on specifics like meals, water, porter services, and whether activities like the boat trips or motorcycle rides are add-ons.
Taxis and moto-taxis are cheap and fast. Most tour operators offer hotel pickup, so you won't need to navigate much on your own. The port area where tours depart can feel sketchy at night - stick to main streets and stay with your group.
The Lost City trek is physically demanding and not recommended for young kids or anyone with significant mobility challenges. Day trips like private Tayrona boat tours are more accessible, but rugged terrain is the norm here. Check tour descriptions carefully for accessibility details.
Yes - the desert is remote, roads are rough, and local guides add cultural context visiting indigenous communities. Most visitors book 4-5 day packages that include motorcycle transport, accommodation with guides, and interaction with native peoples.

Colombia
Santa Marta is Colombia's oldest city and your launchpad for some seriously rewarding wilderness. Most visitors come for one thing: the Lost City trek, a grueling 5-day hike through jungle that rewards you with pre-Columbian ruins and a genuine connection to indigenous communities. But there's more. You can ride motorcycles across the stark La Guajira desert to Punta Gallinas, take private boats to Tayrona's hidden coves, or join semi-private groups combining multiple regions into extended trips. The town itself is gritty and functional - you're here to get out into nature, not linger in the center.
