Osnabrück itself becomes the puzzle in this self-guided outdoor escape game - no venue, no host, just your team and the streets. Magnus has taken the formulas and scattered the proof across the old centre, past Dom St. Petrus, and every location holds a code, a riddle or a photo task waiting to be cracked. Roles matter here: one player reads, another looks, and the team moves on only once you agree. Send two or more teams out at the same time and the hunt becomes a contest, which is what makes this city escape game work as well for a team-building afternoon as for a day out with friends. Reading clues while the city moves around you is part of the challenge.

Welcome to Osnabrück, the "City of Peace". Around 780, Charlemagne, king of the Franks, erected a stone church on the banks of the Hase River, the nucleus of today's Osnabrück. It was the place where the "Peace of Westphalia'', a series of peace treaties were signed, effectively ending the Thirty Years War. Peace was proclaimed in October 1648 from the town hall and would have a significant impact on European history. The city is located in the middle of a UNESCO Geo Park, a 1.220 square kilometers in total area that is a nature reserve, offering a golden opportunity to go cycling or hiking in the country. See the pedestrian zone flanked by gorgeous 15th century half-timbered and sandstone houses, topped off with a war memorial to the soldiers who fought at Waterloo. The city palace was also the birthplace of King George I. of England. Osnabrück is also known amongst literature and art lovers through the works of some of its own sons, Erich Maria Remarque and Felix Nussbaum.

Lüneburg is a small town of 70,000 inhabitants which offers a contrast between medieval charm of the architecture of the city, great pubs for the nowadays students and a salty story. Situated on the Elba River this is a town that is old enough to show that history has passed here. Over 1000 years old this town is still one of the prettiest towns in northern Germany. Stroll the streets of the western Old Town, and notice the crooked and cracked houses there. You could say it is due to the salt of the earth. The wooden houses of the Middle Age, the Renaissance opulence, it is no wonder that this town has been the setting for many movies. Salt has long been a source of wealth, even called the “white gold”. The building is a 15th century patrician building, today housing state departments and an apartment for writers subsidized by the German state.

Common questions about booking Lower Saxony experiences through SimilarTours
Yes - these towns are compact enough that a 2-hour walk with a local guide covers the essentials and connects the dots between what you're seeing. You'll understand the medieval town planning, the histories that shaped each place, and get recommendations that beat generic lists. Most visitors here do hire a guide rather than going solo.
Check before you go, but private guides in Lüneburg, Celle, and Osnabrück can often accommodate bookings within a week or two. Peak season (May to September) is tighter - aim for 2-3 weeks if you're flexible on dates, less if you're not.
Trains connect the main towns well and run frequently. Renting a car gives you freedom for smaller villages, but honestly the town centers are best explored on foot. Between towns, regional trains are reliable and cheaper than driving.
Yes - the walking tours are leisurely and the towns are compact, so kids won't get bored on long walks. Go-kart tours are explicitly family-friendly. Check age and height requirements with specific tours before you go.
May through September gives reliable weather and long daylight for walking. April and October are quieter with fewer crowds in the town centers. Winter is grey and cold, though Christmas markets run through December.
Walking tours typically cover the historic center, main landmarks, and local history - check what's listed for your specific tour. Aerial tours include the flight itself and views of the landscape; confirm flight duration and what areas you'll see. Most don't include meals, but guides will know where to eat well.
Absolutely - private English-language guides are standard here. Younger Germans speak English widely, and tourist information offices have English speakers. Signs in town centers are usually bilingual.

Germany
Lower Saxony rewards slow travel. Its medieval town centers - Lüneburg with its brick Gothic, Celle with half-timbered squares, Osnabrück's quiet charm - reveal themselves best on foot with someone who knows the stories. Visitors here tend to book local guides for 2-hour intros rather than rushing through. For something different, there's a gondola ride in Stade, aerial views over Bremen and Hannover, or go-kart tours around Hamburg's edges. It's the kind of region where you skip the checklist and actually sit in a town square.
