Cross into Botswana for a full day in Chobe National Park — the closest big-game park to Livingstone and one of Africa's great wildlife destinations. Leaving your hotel in the morning and returning in the evening, you'll experience Chobe from both water and land in a single unforgettable day. The morning brings a three-hour river safari along the Chobe River, where elephants come down to drink and cross, hippos and crocodiles laze in the shallows, and the banks teem with birdlife. After a relaxed buffet lunch, you'll head out on a three-hour game drive through the park in search of Chobe's famous herds — the park holds one of the largest elephant populations on the continent — along with buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope, and, with a little luck, predators like lion. Your guide handles the border crossing and immigration along the way, so all you have to do is enjoy the wildlife. It's the perfect big-game add-on to a Victoria Falls trip — two safaris, two ecosystems, one day.

Common questions about booking Livingstone experiences through SimilarTours
May through October gives you the coolest weather and best game viewing when animals cluster around water sources. The Zambezi is also calmer for rafting during this window. November through March is hot and wet, but the landscape greens up beautifully and birdwatching improves.
Popular multi-day safaris and the longer Nanzhila cultural package sell out weeks ahead, especially during peak season. For shorter excursions like a 3-day Chobe trip or night game drive, a week or two usually works, but check before you go to confirm availability and what's actually departing when you're there.
Absolutely. These aren't casual walks - you're dealing with wildlife, sometimes serious whitewater, and navigation through national parks. Guides know where animals congregate, understand safety protocols, and can read conditions on the river. You'll see and learn far more than going solo.
Multi-day safaris include accommodation, meals, and guide services. Some packages add activities like night drives or bush dinners. Rafting trips cover equipment and instruction. Always check the tour details before booking because inclusions vary - some handle transport to the national parks, others don't.
The shorter excursions work fine for families - 3 to 4-day Chobe trips and game drives are popular with children. Longer safaris and whitewater rafting can be tough for young kids depending on their age and tolerance for long drives. Check age requirements and fitness levels with the operator before committing.
Most multi-day tours handle transport as part of the package, moving you between Livingstone, the national parks, and the Zambezi. For day trips, confirm whether pickup from your hotel is included. Distances between South Luangwa, Chobe, and Livingstone can be several hours by vehicle, so planning matters.

Zambia
Livingstone is the adventure capital of southern Africa, where the Zambezi River dominates everything you do. Most visitors come for the wildlife safaris into South Luangwa and Chobe, the whitewater rafting, and Victoria Falls. Tours here run 3 to 10 days and often combine multiple experiences - you might spend a night on a game drive, then paddle the Zambezi the next day, then head into the national parks. It's raw, active, and genuinely wild without feeling overly polished.
