In one location, a local handicrafts and delicatessen store, a traditional orchard and a restored Gofio Mill with a large antiques collection exhibition. La Gomera is an island which, up to 30 years ago, most of it's economy and lifestyle was linked to agriculture and farming. Still deeply settled in their culture, it is a basic insight in the spirit and landscape of an island that still feels like settled in ancient times.

We propose a day trip to Garajonay National Park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The visit will focus on Christopher Columbus's trips to La Gomera during his voyages to America, the places where he lived and stocked up for his journeys, the reasons for his stay on this particular island, and, of course, the rich biodiversity of the Laurisilva Forest in the center of the island. We will visit the island's capital, San Sebastián, and the key locations where Columbus had his romantic affairs with Beatriz de Bobadilla: the Casa de Colón, which houses a rich exhibition of pre-Columbian sculptures brought from America; El Pozo de la Aguada, where the water that baptized the new continent was drawn; and the Torre del Conde, the last and best-preserved military fortress in the Canary Islands. In short, an essential tour through history, focusing on the role this small city played in the conquest of the American continent.

We move to different islands of the Canary Islands, depending on the migration of marlins and tuna. We are on the island of La Gomera in April for giant bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna and other small and medium tuna. In La Gomera for blue marlin in May, June and July. In Lanzarote for blue and white marlin at the end of July, August, September, October and early November. From November to March in Lanzarote for bottom fish, tuna and bass, serviolas, snappers and grouper. We have 20 years of experience in sport fishing with lures and fresh bait. I usually catch the tangerine with heavy equipment and bait & switch for blue marlin and bluefin tuna, which in our area usually weigh between 150 and 400 kilograms. For the white marlin, I always fish with natural bait and light equipment to the tanner with circular hook or bait & switch.

Common questions about booking La Gomera experiences through SimilarTours
Yes, especially if you're day-tripping to Tenerife - most visitors opt for private car tours with guides rather than group coaches. The island's winding mountain roads reward someone who knows the stops, whether that's the best viewpoint near Icod or a working village where locals actually eat lunch.
Check before you go, but fishing charters and private guides tend to book up on weekends and Spanish holidays. If you're flexible mid-week, last-minute slots often open up.
Year-round is genuinely feasible here - the Canaries stay warm. That said, winter (November to March) brings calmer seas and fewer tourists, which suits both fishing and hiking. Summer heat can be intense for full-day walking tours.
Getting to remote spots - cliffside pools, Masca village, Teide National Park on Tenerife - is much easier with a car or booked private transport. If you're staying in a main town and want day trips, a private driver removes the navigation headache entirely.
Absolutely. Family outings and food tours run regularly, though boat-based activities do depend on sea conditions - check the day of. Multi-hour hikes work best with older kids unless the tour specifically markets itself for young families.
Private guides and drivers usually cover transport, entrance fees to villages or viewpoints, and local knowledge about where to eat or what's worth stopping for. Food tours add tastings and meals; fishing trips include equipment and the catch. Always confirm what's included before booking.
Some operators offer inflatable boat outings without requiring a license, but check the specific tour details - insurance and age requirements vary. Fishing charters handle all equipment and legalities on their side.

Spain
La Gomera is a quieter Canary Island where visitors split time between the island itself and easy day trips to Tenerife's bigger draws. You'll find people booking fishing charters off the coast, private car tours through Tenerife's dramatic valleys and villages like Masca and Garachico, hikes to natural pools and cliffsides, and food-focused tours pairing local wine with regional cooking. It's the kind of place where a weekend feels genuinely paced rather than rushed.
