Our route will last 2.5-3 hours and will take us on some lovely roads out to the cliffs, with a tea rooms and local pub along the way if you fancy a refreshment. To get access to some of the most interesting places (for example a shipwreck-wood cabin built into the cliff face in the 1800's) we will park the bikes and go on foot for 15 minutes, so please be aware bring shoes you are comfortable walking in too. Take off and climb away using our 80hp Rotax engine and upon reaching 1 mile above sea level we will slowly reduce power and allow the engine to gently cool down. After about a minute of cooling we will stop the engine completely and become a proper glider with a glide ratio of 24 to 1. This should give us 15-20 minutes of silent engineless flight or more if we can find some thermals and go soaring with the birds.

Common questions about booking Devon experiences through SimilarTours
May through September gives you the warmest weather and calmest seas for water activities like sea kayaking and coasteering. Spring and autumn are quieter and still pleasant if you don't mind cooler temperatures and occasional rain.
Multi-day courses like the 2-day sea kayak introduction and flying experiences tend to fill up weeks ahead, especially in peak season. Most half-day tours and day trips can be booked a few days out, but check before you go for school holidays and weekends.
A car gives you the most flexibility for reaching Dartmoor, coastal villages, and orchards. If you're based in Torquay or Exeter, many boat tours and some guided walks operate from there, but you'll be limited without transport.
Yes - local guides know the tides for safe coasteering, wildlife hotspots for kayaking, and the quirky history of villages that make casual visits feel rushed. They're especially valuable for technical activities like gliding where instruction is part of the experience.
Absolutely. The Seaton Tram is a gentler outing for younger kids, while coasteering and sea kayak courses usually accommodate families with basic fitness. Cider and gin experiences skew toward adults, though some venues offer non-alcoholic options - check before you go.
Waterproof jacket and layers are essential year-round. For water activities, operators typically supply wetsuits, but bring a quick-dry towel and change of clothes. Sturdy walking boots help on Dartmoor, and sunscreen matters even on cloudy days near the coast.
Most tours welcome beginners - the sea kayak course, gliding experiences, and coasteering are all designed with no prior knowledge needed. Walking tours and boat trips require nothing but comfortable shoes and reasonable fitness.

Devon's coastline and countryside offer some of England's most varied adventure bookings. Visitors come for the dramatic Jurassic Coast - either from the air in a glider or from the water by kayak and coasteering - plus quieter experiences like cider tours and gin-making classes. Inland, Dartmoor draws hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, while the fishing villages around Torquay attract boat tours and casual explorers. It's a place where you can fly a motorglider one day and learn bushcraft the next.
