The Blue Lake Cave is one of the main postcards of Bonito-MS and certainly one of the most beautiful settings in Brazil, it is one of the largest flooded caves on the planet, and visiting it is a true journey to the origins of the region. The tour is entirely contemplative, and to reach the lake, it is necessary to descend almost 300 steps, equivalent to a 12-story building. But don't worry, the reward is worth it. The lake is crystal clear, and the blue color that makes it famous is due to a combination of factors, such as the location of the cave and the presence of minerals on its bottom. In the early hours of the morning, the blue becomes even more intense, and outside of visiting hours, it is no longer possible to see this coloration. To take the tour, visitors must wear a helmet provided by the tour, and wearing hiking shoes or sandals with rubber soles is mandatory.

Common questions about booking Bonito experiences through SimilarTours
The dry season (May-September) offers the clearest water and most stable conditions for snorkeling and floating tours. You can visit year-round, but check before you go on rainfall forecasts - heavy rain can affect water visibility and cave access.
Book snorkeling tours and cave experiences at least a few days ahead, especially if traveling during shoulder season or weekends. Some tours offer skip-the-line tickets (like Recanto Ecologico Rio da Prata and Estancia Mimosa), which is worth considering if you're visiting in peak months.
Most water activities require a guide by law - snorkeling, floating, and cave tours are all structured experiences with operators. Self-guided walking is possible on some trails, but hiring a local guide unlocks the ecology and geography that makes these rivers special.
Bonito is small and walkable, but tours typically pick you up from your hotel. For getting from Campo Grande airport, shared shuttles connect directly to Bonito hotels - handy if you're traveling solo or want to save money.
Floating tours (Sucuri River, Nascente Azul, Rio da Prata) are generally accessible for most ages and fitness levels since you're in water. Caving, rappelling, and tree climbing require more mobility. Check before you go with your tour operator about specific accessibility options.
Most include equipment (wetsuit, snorkel gear), a guide, and transportation to the site. Trail walks are often part of the experience too. Lunch and photos vary by operator - ask when you book.
Yes. The visibility here really is exceptional compared to most river snorkeling destinations in South America. Water clarity depends on recent rainfall, so timing matters - the dry season is your best bet for that famous transparency.

Brazil
Bonito isn't flashy, but it's where Brazil's most crystal-clear water sits. You'll float through emerald rivers so transparent you see fish beneath you, rappel into caves by boat, climb trees, and walk through trails that lead to waterfalls. Most people book snorkeling tours (the Sucuri and Rio da Prata rivers are the draws), but there's also a quieter side - contemplative floats at Nascente Azul, caving adventures at Anhumas. It's a working eco-tourism town that takes the water seriously, which means the experiences here are genuinely tied to conservation rather than just thrills.
