Built in the 14th century as part of a Cistercian monastery, it houses the remains of about 40,000 people. After the cemetery was abolished in the late 15th century, a Sedlec monk arranged the bones into large pyramids in 1511. The chapel's striking decorations are believed to be designed by renowned architect J. B. Santini.
Originally built in the 14th century in the Neo-Gothic style, it was abandoned and damaged during the Hussite Wars. It was later reconstructed in the pure Baroque style by the famous architect Jan Blažej Santini. This masterpiece represents a unique blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture.

Before visiting this church, count on the transfer from Sedlec to Kutná Hora, which takes about 15 minutes (by car and on foot).
