Travelling along the coastal road and over the Berriedale Braes, we stop at the home of Old Pulteney Whisky, Wick. A famous herring fishing harbour in days past; new industry flourishes, such as the Caithness glass blowing factory and Nucleus, the national archive centre for the civil nuclear industry.

At the most northerly point in Scotland and the UK, this lighthouse was built by the grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Hugging the coastline, we pass the nuclear facility at Dounreay, which is now being decommissioned, picturesque Bettyhill, the Kyles of Tongue and the coldest place in Scotland in winter, Altnaharra before reaching Lairg and the final decent back to Inverness.
