It begins at km 104 of the railroad that goes to Machu Picchu, at an altitude of 2150 meters / 7053 ft. The highest point is the Sun Gate (2,730 meters / 8,956 ft. It has 10.5 km / 6.5 miles and lasts 6 hours at a moderate pace.
It also allows you to explore three beautiful Inca cities, Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna, and in the afternoon to Machu Picchu with stunning sunset views.

Full-Day Inca Trail Hike to Machu Picchu Our staff will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 h. and take you to the Ollantaytambo train station. You’ll board the Expedition Train, which departs at 6:10 h, and travel for 1 hour and 17 minutes to km-104 of the railway, where your professional guide will be waiting to welcome you and help you pass through the access checkpoint for the short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Begin your hike by visiting Chachabamba. This is one of the more than 190 archaeological sites within the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. Then, continue along an uphill trail for 3 hrs to the Wiñaywayna archaeological site, where you’ll have plenty of time to explore and take excellent photos. Here you will also make a brief stop to enjoy your lunch. Continue your hike to the highest point (The Sun Gate, 2,720 m/8,922ft), along a beautiful trail surrounded by abundant flora and fauna. From here, you’ll be able to take in the stunning panoramic view of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu hiking tour. From the Sun Gate, make your way down to the Machu Picchu viewpoint. You’ll reach the Machu Picchu summit around 2:00 PM, where you’ll have the chance to take the classic photos. The 1-day ticket for the Inca Trail includes a visit to Machu Picchu via Route 1B (Upper Terrace) only, which offers the classic views. From here, your tour guide will explain the history and mysteries of this wonder of the world. Afterward, head to the main gate to board the bus down to the Aguas Calientes town (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Here you can grab a bite to eat before boarding your return train (6:20 PM) to Ollantaytambo, as you’ll arrive in Cusco around 10:00 PM. In the town of Aguas Calientes, head to the train station half an hour before departure, and upon your arrival at the Ollantaytambo train station, our staff will be waiting to accompany you to your hotel in Cusco.
