This is an off the beaten mystery trail in Goa where we explore 9000-year-old rock carvings, laterite caves believed to be the home of the legendary Pandavas from the Hindu epic of Mahabharata, Netravali temple lake with its quirky bubbles and a spice farm where we have a traditional Goan lunch.
10 AM- Rock art at Panasalimal We begin this trail at an ancient site in Goa located in a small hamlet on the banks of the river Kushavati. The petroglyphs or rock engravings from Panasalimal on the banks of river Kushavati date back to the stone age. The engravings on laterite has a depiction of animals, concentric circles, and human figurines. Our archaeologist will also show you a figure consisting of three stylized human arms or legs radiating from a centre and a series of concentric circles thought to have been a primitive means of measuring time!
It is believed to be the home of the Pandavas of the Mahabharata fame, during their exile. The architecture, sculptures, and inscriptions in the fields nearby indicate that these caves are the creation of Buddhist monks in the 6th century. We will also visit an interesting tunnel dug in the laterite. which is supposed to open out in the neighboring village.
Located in the vicinity of the Gopinath Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, this lake is famous for bubbles on its surface. What is even queerer is the fact that these bubbles rise when we clap! Is this a miracle of Lord Krishna? Or is there a scientific explanation? Our Archeologist will shed some light on this during the tour.
We will visit the spice farm and have traditional Goan lunch served in the earthen vessel in a natural ambiance. After lunch, we will take a tour of the farm and learn about different spices that are grown here.
