18) After Silla unified the Three Kingdoms, a large pond was dug. It was established in the 19th year of King Munmu (A.D. 679). Donggung was the banquet site for important national events and important visitors. This was a place where King Gyeongsun held a reception for Wang Geon to request help. Donggung palace was where a prince used to stay. Dongggung palace and Wolji pond were restored in the 1980s and remain to the present day.
