What to expect
Doge's Palace
The Doge's Palace served as the political heart of the Venetian Republic for centuries, housing the residence of the Doge and the chambers of its most powerful governing bodies.
• Grand Council Chamber: The largest room in the palace, its walls and ceilings covered in monumental canvases including Tintoretto's Il Paradiso — one of the largest oil paintings in the world.
• Bridge of Sighs: Cross the enclosed limestone bridge that once connected the palace's interrogation rooms to the New Prisons, where condemned prisoners caught their last glimpse of Venice.
• New Prisons: Walk through the cells that held the Republic's prisoners, where scratched inscriptions on the walls still survive today.
• Armory: One of Europe's best-preserved collections of medieval and Renaissance arms and armor, displayed across several rooms of the palace.
• Doge's Apartments: The private rooms where Venice's ruler lived and worked, decorated with period furnishings and artworks.
Museo Correr, Archaeological Museum & Biblioteca Marciana
Your ticket grants access to three further venues within the St. Mark's Square Museums circuit, each accessible without a guide at any point within 3 days of your Doge's Palace visit. Museo Correr traces Venice's history and art from the medieval period onward. The National Archaeological Museum holds one of Italy's most significant collections of Greek and Roman antiquities. The Monumental Rooms of Biblioteca Marciana — designed by Jacopo Sansovino — house rare manuscripts and a ceiling decorated by Titian and Veronese.
